Homework1: Graphics in Web Design

Powerfully and silently, pictures effectively express ideas and thoughts. Pictures are worth thousand words and have a telling impact on the viewers mind. Since time immemorial, pictures have been used increasingly to communicate message. The World Wide Web also makes use of pictures extensively like the print media and other audio- visual medium which have been using static as well as dynamic images for effective communication.
Images are an integral part of website design. It is very much significant to note that images does enhance the look of a website and invites in more and more traffic but if it is used derogatively, it´s sure not to let visitors turn for the next time and eventually ruin the website.

My favourite 3 web sites

http://www.goal.com/en-us/ is a website for international football news. Goal.com represents the largest football community in the world, with 22 language versions, covering over 200 countries. Goal.com provides users with the breaking news, live scores, match previews, editorials, exclusives, and latest club news through its interactive web site and community forums. It has a search bar (so it means that they are using forums like PHP,MySQL,AJAX for collecting data) which helps you find inforamations (news).

http://www.nike.com/nikeos/p/usnikefootball/en_US/ When I open this site there is a search bar and many hyperlinks. When i open them there is at least one video (for that they are using Mulitimedia) Below each video or information lies a comment by the up-loader and some comments posted by the viewers.

http://www.economist.com/  This site is mostly for highly educated people that like to find some news about politics and economics. When i open it i notice that there is a search box and alot of links. You can notice the cool animations they have inserted so with that it is more interesting for the readers (also that means that they are using javascript).

In the Social Network(Facebook) What is your opinion? Why is facebook succesful?

If you have ever heard anyone talking about a social networking website, Facebook may be one of the site they have been targeted. In February 2004, Mark Zuckerburg founded Facebook. Facebook site has been created by students of Harvard and several months later it extended to other Ivy League universities.
Finally, the site was open to high school and after that Facebook is open to anyone with a valid email address who are thirteen years and older. Facebook is one of the most popular social networks on the Internet today. In fact, Facebook has over two hundred million registered users who maintain an active state on the site.
Facebook is very popular and here are some of the reasons:
  • Facebook allows its members a way to stay connected or reconnect with old friends, family members and classmates.
  • Facebook also offers the opportunity to meet new people and keep in touch with existing friends.
  • Your Facebook profile gives you the ability to display information such as relationship status, religious views, political opinion, age and location of other details.
  • You can create a complete profile for yourself, which includes space for a “about me” section, favorite quotes, movies, favorite books and your favorite music.
  • You can upload photos, create photo albums and view photos of friends. You and your friends can see each other pictures and comments on the pictures.
  • You can send your comments, instant messages and messages to your friends.
  • Update your status to let your friends know what you’re thinking or what you are doing.
  • Join groups, causes, and become a fan of pages.
  • Enjoy thousands of Facebook applications. Play different games and send virtual gifts to your friends.

Importance of HTML when designing a web.

Assessing the importance of HTML, it would be best to know what it is. It stands for HyperText Markup Language. It is the one central language that can read a web page and not have to worry about showing the code if done correctly. There is the question of why it is important to know it. It really comes down to the simple fact that they have to be known if those are going to be building web sites consistently. Any web site that is out there must have that knowledge in order to understand how it is structured and how it is put together.HTML is easy to learn, and knowing the basics will allow you to start creating your very own website. It is the most powerful tool for websites, thus it is considered “square one” of the entire creation process.

Copyright Laws

Copyright law has both benefited society and made it harder for the other part of society to be creative and invent their own works of art because the competition is too high and only a handfull of people hold the music industry, film industry, and art industry. Copyright law is very good because it helps artists who have worked hard for their work to have some profit from it, and be able to work further and invent more genious things. The copyright laws help artist defend their work from being taken or destroyed by other people. Although all this is good for artist and other inventors, it is bad for another group of people who wish to write, or invent something, because it is hard for them to compete against monopoly industries.

The only thing that I would change about the copywrite laws is that they are not alowed to punish people for downloading music or movies, because its not their fault. I would make it so that the people who upload that music and videos get punished.
